What is the Goal of Mountain Climbing?
A lot of climbers think the goal of mountain climbing is to reach the summit. True climbers know something else. They know that particular goal is dangerous and life threatening. The goal must be to summit with enough strength to return to base camp.
Frozen in Place
It’s why almost two hundred climbers are frozen in place near the summit of Everest. Most of them made it to the top of the world, but with no physical reserves to do any more. So depleted, some just sat down and it took their lives.
Quitting and Sitting
I think you know what that feels like – to be so depleted that you just want to sit down and quit. Life on this planet can do that to you. A relationship can drain you that much. Your own body malfunctioning can deplete you that much. Your own personal economy can wear you out completely. Unfairness and injustice can take away your strength.
God has a way of restoring your strength. It’s a specific way of renewing and rebuilding your strength of soul when you feel like quitting. Here it is.
28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth Does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable. 29 He gives strength to the weary, And to him who lacks might He increases power. 30 Though youths grow weary and tired, And vigorous young men stumble badly, 31 Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.
41:10 ‘Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
Renewing strength is found in a peculiar kind of waiting — watch this message to discover the principles.
